On OCAP

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again.  PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE, for the love of all that is Good and Holy, if you have property, children, and/or have been married longer than 5 minutes, PLEASE don’t use the online divorce prep, also known as OCAP (Online Court Assistance Program).  This is a program put out by the Utah State Courts website, and while it has its place, a divorce with children and/or property is NOT the place.  I have yet another divorce case that I’m working on the aftermath from that was an OCAP divorce.  There are terms in the divorce that may not be enforceable, just because of the way property is titled (and it was that way when they got divorced as well, 7 years ago.)

If you think you can’t afford a lawyer in the beginning, please know that you will have to afford a lawyer later on, more than likely (unless your ex dies), to fix or enforce your OCAP divorce if you go that route.

Seriously.  And tell your friends.
