We’re Open!
I know it’s been a very long time since I posted an article. It’s been a VERY busy year for me! I’ve relocated to Wyoming, and am licensed here as well as staying licensed in Utah. I’m also working on my application to the Idaho Bar, so (fingers crossed) I can add that to my credentials soon.
And I am now taking new cases. I’m doing GAL work as well as domestic and a smattering of other civil law in Wyoming, and am available to take domestic and minor criminal cases in Box Elder, Cache, and Rich counties in Utah. I’m excited to learn new courts and new law (and there IS new domestic law in Utah! Stay tuned for THAT information.)

- Idaho Child Support Calculator Software! This is an online subscription child support calculation software for the state of Idaho. It’s a subscription site, but it does have a 14 day free trial option available.
- Idaho Child Support Guidelines This is a pretty lengthy PDF document, but scroll to the bottom…it has a table with child support amounts already calculated based on total income of both parties.
- Idaho Child Support Services LOTS of good information regarding getting a child support order, enforcing it, modifying it, and forms to do all these things on your own.
- Idaho Court Rules (Civil Procedure, etc.) This page has links to ALL of the various court rules in the state of Idaho
- Idaho District Courts Self-Help Website This is Idaho’s page with free forms/information about handling your own case without a lawyer.

- CAPSA–Logan, UT Domestic Violence Shelter CAPSA provides emergency services for victims of domestic abuse. Serving Cache County specifically.
- CLIMB Wyoming CLIMB Wyoming is an organization whose goal is to help single mothers become better educated and able to support themselves and their families.
- Club Inc. This is a non-profit in Idaho Falls that helps low income people get into housing. Take a look if you need this type of assistance in that part of the world.
- Department of Defense Manpower Data Single Record Request A Military Service Affidavit is required in all civil court filings. It has to do with complying with the Servicemembers Civil Relief Act. - FTC Free Credit Report Info You’re entitled to get a free copy of your credit report from all three big credit bureaus in the U.S. once a year. Here’s the government link with info about that and how to get yours.
- Housing Authority/County of Salt Lake (UTAH) Directions to help with housing assistance in Salt Lake County, Utah.
- Idaho Housing and Finance This page has Idaho specific information regarding HOW to get HUD to help you with a rental.
- Innovative Divorce Solutions, aka Todd Wetsel, mediator Todd is another great, low-cost mediator who knows what he’s doing and it won’t cost you your firstborn to go through mediation.
- Kathy Elton Consulting Kathy is a mediator I’ve used before. I like her style, and I like her prices :). Additionally, her website has a blog that has good information regarding mediation (required by law in all UT divorces.)
- Leaving the Law A blog about finding life after being a lawyer…I need to read through all of these posts.
- Low Income Housing US This page is a clearinghouse for subsidized/low income rental housing information in all 50 states.
- Military Divorce Guide Covers military divorce, retirement, SBP, VA disability, Servicemembers Civil Relief Act, etc. This link is to a blog produced by an attorney in Colorado, so all of the information may or may not be applicable in Utah law.

- US Department of Housing and Urban Development HUD if federal assistance for housing. Click on the “states info” at the top of the home page to find specific information.
- US Immigration Info for Victims of Abuse This is the US federal government’s website for getting an immigration petition started if one is a victim of domestic abuse. The law is the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA), but it covers anyone who is a victim of abuse.
- Utah Dispute Resolution (UDR) UDR does free and low-cost mediation for low and middle income Utah residents. You’re required to mediate in family cases…here’s a low or no-cost option.

Utah Law
- Timpanogas Legal Center (TLC) Timp Legal provides assistance to otherwise unrepresented people in their domestic cases. They have a document clinic where they can help you draft your documents, skype/facetime with you, and generally hold your hand when you need it.
- UCA 30-3-35.1–the New optional statutory parent time schedule This is a relatively new statutory Utah parent time schedule that creates joint physical custody between the parents by adding a couple of overnights per week to the otherwise (non)custodial parent’s time.
- Utah Child Support Calculation for Self-Employed persons This is the law of how to calculate child support when the obligor parent is self-employed.

- Utah Courts Self-Help page If you absolutely insist on not hiring a lawyer, this page has forms that can be used to file actions in the court in Utah.

- Utah Visitation Relocation Statute There is statute that spells out what the minimum visitation should be when a parent relocates after a divorce/custody decree is entered. That’s HERE. Remember–these are MINIMUMS.
Wyoming Law
- UW College of Law Family and Child Legal Advocacy Clinic UW Legal Services/Family and Children Advocacy Program provide free legal services to those who meet certain criteria, on a first-come/first-served basis. Contact info is at the bottom of the page.
- Wyoming Child Support Calculator This is the link from the Wyoming Courts website.
- Wyoming Court Rules–all of them The link goes to the Wyoming courts website, and has all the court rules, including civil and criminal procedure.
- Wyoming Home Support This site gives info on enforcing a child support order in Wyoming, among other things.
